چکیده

A radar-based method for producing both land-cover classification and stem volume estimates for the forested areas is demonstrated. The method utilizes multi-temporal INSAR data that is segmented into quasi-homogenous segments, and a semiempirical backscattering-coherence model that is inverted to produce stem volume estimates for the forest segments. Forest stands with known stem volumes are required as training areas for determining the values of the model parameters. The performance of the method was studied by estimating the stemvolumes of 4000+ forest segments and comparing the results with stem volume estimates produced by ground-based estimates and the National Forest Inventory (NFI) of Finland. The method is suitable for operational use and the performance in stem volume estimation is comparable with optical methods. Urban Change Detection Using Coherence and Intensity Characteristics of Multi-temporal ERS-1/2 Imagery

In this paper, the potential of multitemporal ERS-1/2 InSAR data for detecting urban land-cover changes is investigated on a test area within Shanghai city, China. A new unsupervised change-detection approach is proposed, which is characterized by the combined use of two temporal variations based on backscattering intensity and long-term coherence from multitemporal ERS-1/2 SAR images. The prop...

Application of Multitemporal Interferometric SAR Data for Land Cover Mapping in Mongolia

The aim of this study is to use the original and other ancillary derived features extracted from multitemporal spaceborne interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) data sets for land cover mapping. For the actual land cover mapping, supervised (statistical maximum likelihood classification) and unsupervised (isodata clustering) classifications have been performed using a) the original In...

Monitoring of Deforestation in Tropical Rain Forest Areas by Using Insar - Comparison between L-band and C-band Sar -

ABSTRACT: The author compared the capability of coherence information obtained from interferometric SAR (InSAR) by C-band SAR of ERS-1 and 2 and by L-band SAR of JERS-1 for the purpose of monitoring the changes of tropical rain forest due to deforestation. The test site was a southern part of Sumatra Island with 50 by 50 kilometers coverage. The several repeat-pass interferometric data pairs by...

Monitoring of the Forests State in the Chernobyl Area Using Ers Sar Data

The study of the area of Chernobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) using ERS SAR data was conducted under AO3-246 project and devoted to the monitoring of the forests state in the surrounding area. Our earlier analysis SIR-C/X SAR images of the area of interest showed, that X-band and C-band data are significantly worse for the forests classification purposes, than those from L-band. The use of a ser...

Experiences in Boreal Forest Stem Volume Estimation from Multitemporal C-Band InSAR

During the last two decades synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) have become important tools for airborne and satellite remote sensing. SAR delivers a high resolution image of the radar backscatter and by means of InSAR a second image from almost the same orbit is combined with the first one to provide the relative phase difference and stability/co...
